All you need to know about the Coronavirus

We all know what is going on in the world at the moment with the global outbreak of coronavirus and unfortunately, there is a lot of confusion and misinformation going around about the symptoms of the virus. But don’t stress HN9ers, we’ve got your back so to avoid confusion here is a full list of symptoms and other important info you need to know.

Symptoms

Firstly, the official name for this strain of the coronavirus is COVID-19. It is a respiratory disease and most infected people will develop mild to moderate symptoms and recover without requiring special treatment. The virus will present itself with the following symptoms after 7 to 14 days.

  • fever

  • tiredness

  • dry cough.

Other symptoms include:

  • shortness of breath

  • aches and pains

  • sore throat

  • and very few people will report diarrhoea, nausea or a runny nose.

Because the virus presents itself similarly to a cold or flu it is important to pay attention to see if you or one of your friends or family have all the symptoms and not just 1 or 2 so as not to cause panic.

Other information

The coronavirus is quite contagious, and the symptoms of coughing, runny nose and diarrhoea can cause the virus to spread more easily. This is why people all over the world are self-quarantining themselves in their homes for up to 21 days to prevent the spread of the virus. Other ways to prevent the spread are…

  • Wash your hands regularly with soap and water, or clean them with alcohol-based hand rub.

  • Maintain at least 1-meter distance between you and people coughing or sneezing.

  • Avoid touching your face.

  • Cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing.

  • Refrain from smoking and other activities that weaken the lungs.

  • Practice physical distancing by avoiding unnecessary travel and staying away from large groups of people.

While there is currently no vaccine for the coronavirus there are numerous researchers in various labs all over the world working tirelessly on a cure, The speed of the development of the vaccine is actually faster than any other developed in recent history so there is definitely hope. We all just need to be responsible and be aware of the important information and stop the spread of false information and fake news.
