Why it is relevant to us as South African youth : because the themes that are in Othello are still relevant today in South Africa especially racial prejudice, jealousy and manipulation is also still very present in today’s youth and it's very important to learn more about these themes to better learn from it and prevent it in our own lives.
So basically Othello revolves around Iago’s hatred for Othello after losing a promotion to Cassio and how far he is prepared to go in order to get what he wants.
Throughout the events of the play, Iago plots and schemes against Othello by corrupting his mind against his love Desdemona who he gets lead to believe is unfaithful
Iago doesn’t just manipulate Othello he also manipulates Roderigo, the man that paid him to get Othello’s wife Desdemona to love him.
In the end, Othello kills his wife because he believes she cheated, Roderigo gets killed by Iago and after finding out that Desdemona was innocent Othello takes his own life while Iago is taken away to be tortured.
