Gastronomy is the cooking style meant to delight your senses by blending boundaries between what you think something might taste like and what it actually does taste like! For example, a gastronomy meal is a plate with what looks like a fried egg on it, but when you eat it the egg is made of white chocolate!
Today Ayesha experiments with gastronomyby creating a Hazelnut Latte that looks otherworldly! Make each part of the recipe below, and put it together like the picture at the end, and voila, YOU are a gastronomist! Let us know if you loved the recipe in the comments below!
4 tbsp cake flour
4 tbsp sugar
2 tbsp cocoa
3 tbsp milk
3 tbsp oil
1 tsp vanilla
Mix all together and microwave in a mug for 2-3 mins.
1/3 cup Nutella
1/2 cup maltodextrin powder
Mix together in a blender while lightly shaking around the ingredients. The maltodextrin turns the Nutella into a powder and soon as you eat it, turns it back to it's original state.
1 cup coffee, brewed
1 tsp agar agar powder
2 cups veg oil/water (ice cold)
Squeeze bottle/ syringe
Boil coffee and agar agar together. Let cool.
Using a syringe or squeeze bottle, drop small amounts of the coffee mixture into the cold oil or water. As the coffee drops, it forms small pearls/ caviar of coffee.
N.B! it's crucial that the oil/water used is ice cold as this sets the coffee from liquid to a solid gel form.
Warm half and half:
1/4 cup milk
Heat the ingredients together.
Plating the Ingredients:
In a glass mug (make sure the mug is heat resistant!), put the chocolate cake part in first.
Then, pour the milk over the cake
Sprinkle the Nutella Powder over the mixture
Finally, spoon out the coffee caviar when it has solidified and sprinkle on top!
