Advice from Tracy: Black Tie Events

It was great chatting to Chad Saaiman and Samora on today’s show about formal men’s Fashion.

If you have received an invitation for a black tie event or you are getting ready for a big formal function like a school dance or matric ball, you may be wondering what you are expected to wear. Black tie events are usually very formal, and wearing the wrong outfit can be seen as rude or inappropriate.

The most important aspect of the Black-tie dress code is fit and colour. Always ensure that your suit is well fitted and is in a monochromatic colour scheme (Black and white or grey and black for example) Fashion is evolving so don’t be scared to add your own personal flavour like broaches, cuffs and other accessories.

We dressed our models in two different suit looks, one in all black, which we made a bit more edgy with two tone black and white formal shoes, the other we did a three piece black and grey suit which we paired with all black sneakers to keep it youthful.

I had fun dressing up in my own suit version inspired by singer Janelle Monae who enjoys dressing in an androgynous (unisex) style and also always in black and white.

Hope you enjoyed the show always remember the most important part of looking good is feeling good, confidence is key.
