EDUN - saving it in style

EDUN - saving it in style

Prominent South Africans are always talking about how they get their clothes from overseas...well guess what? - Gwyneth Paltrow, Ben Affleck, and Laila Ali (just to mention a few celebs) are wearing clothes that come from right HERE...

U2 frontguy - Bono, and business partner, Ali Hewson, launched an eco-friendly label in 2005, that promotes eco clothing with a mission to drive sustainable employment in developing economies.  Lesotho, Uganda, Mauritius, South Africa and Tanzania are just some of the African countries involved in the manufacture of EDUN clothing. India and south America are also beneficiaries of the system. The idea is to use raw materials - cotton - fro the countries, as well as labour. Full details about which clothes are made where is provided on the EDUN website.  The company emphasizes that they are a FOR PROFIT - organistaion  because the idea is to be creating sustainable work - not giving people charity.

EDUN showed their latest at New york Fashion week - taking place in the 2nd week of September.

Of  course, being eco-friendly is also very fashionable here in SA, with (relatively) new kids on the SA fashion block "Lalesso", also making their clothes in Kenya and making a name for themselves amongst overseas shoppers too!
