WEEKEND WRAP UP

It’s time once again for the HN9 weekly wrap up where we look at the hottest news that made headlines over the weekend. Today we’ve got loads of sports news and some gossip from the Golden Globes:

• Our cricketers – the Proteas – somehow managed to lose a match from a clear winning position at the Wanderers Stadium in JHB on Saturday night. They are playing India in a 5-match ODI series and ended up losing by 1 run! The series is now level at 1 – 1. Hopefully we’ll win the next ODI at Newlands which takes place tomorrow.

• Ajax Cape Town performed amazingly on Friday to beat Kaizer Chiefs 1-0 at the Cape Town Stadium in Green Point. The crowd went wild and the atmosphere was electric. Congratulations!!! AND in other local soccer news Orlando Pirates missed out on the chance to move up to second place on the Premiership standings after being held to a goal-less draw by Santos at the Orlando Stadium on Saturday evening.

• Tennis fans will be super excited because the Australian Open started today in Melbourne! Heavy-weights like Andy Roddick, Maria Sharapova, Venus Williams and Roger Federer easily advanced to the second round. Congrats to them.

• The Golden Globes took place over the weekend and the stars were all glammed up for the big event. The Social Network walked away with the Best Motion picture and best director awards, Natalie Portman won for best actress in a movie and British actor Colin Firth won for best actor.
