The Moon and Beautiful Cape TownI just received a picture via email from a family friend in Joburg and I just wanted to share it with you.
The pic you see attached is a real picture which was taken last week in Cape Town. This is the closest that the moon comes to the earth in its orbit. I just learned that the orbit of the moon isn't circular, it is oblong, cool huh?
When looking at this pic, it just made me realise how beautiful our planet truly is and how many things about it, we don’t know a lot about. And all of this got me thinking about how easily we tend to destroy the planet.
Daily I have to remind my friends to switch off their lights when they leave a room or to turn off the TV when they are done watching it. Although these are minor things, it extends to the bigger things like Rhino poaching, which is really serious problem right here in our country.
In 2011, 448 rhinos where poached for their horns. If we continue at this rate our rhino population in South Africa will decline drastically in the next 2 months. Our police have done a good job thus far with confiscating nearly R57million in merchandise but it is still scary to note that just in the Kruger National Park, 127 rhinos have been poached since January of this year. That's almost a rhino a day.
So I hope you all appreciated the moon and if you saw it first-hand I would like to know what you thought? And if you have any causes that you would like to share which are making our planet even better, please do share these with the Hectic team. It is the best way to feel like you are making an impact in the world. Peace out till next time! Ciao
