Gaming Guru Does NumbersIn the world of gaming and technology, there is an abundance of money being thrown around for the pleasure of us Gamers. Let me school you on how much money is in this industry. Last year alone, 3.9 million games were sold in South Africa valued at R900 million. As compared to movie ticket sales which sold a value of R788.13 million. I’d easily say gaming is a fast growing market which has been underestimated.
FIFA 12 alone, brought in R108 million in digital revenues (largely through its FIFA Ultimate Team mode), with another R34 million expected for the current year. EA Games expect even more revenue for the newly-released Battlefield 3.
EA has also branched out to the guys at Wii. The next Wii console, will be named the Wii U, which will be coming out later this year, and will hit South Africa early 2013. This console will support EA games - which should make Wii U sales shoot up. Annually EA can rack up to $4.14 billion.
Gaming is not just gaming, there’s a lot of money in the industry. If you are still in high school and love technology and games, consider a career in the field. There’s a huge gap in South Africa, so study up and work hard because it will definitely be rewarding.
